When You Think of Me.

What do you think of
when you think of me?
Do you think of my body,
or imagine my dreams?
What do you think of
when you hear my name?
Do you think of
my weakness,
or picture my strength?

What do you think of
when you see my face?
Do you think of my loved ones,
or decide my proper place?
What do you think of
when you hear my voice?
Am I just number?
Am I noise?

What do you think of
when I cross your mind?
Have you chosen my sentence,
convicted me of my crimes?
What do you think of
when you catch my scent?
Do you choke and snarl
while you spit your dissent?

What do you think of
when you see my mess?
Do you feel self-righteous
or do you confess?
Have you thought
of forgiveness,
of being set free…
what do you think of
when you think of me?
