Shorthand for Misconception.

Anyone who says
that rapping is easy
could never pour out rhymes
slack enough to release me,
yet tight enough to keep me
on the rope, pizzicato,
like the Mighty Mos Def
fluid even in staccato.

And
anyone who thinks
that rapping’s just talking
would flip, flop, and flow
like William Shatner or Christopher Walken.
Confidence, charisma, rhythm, in-
telligence, and an A/C system re-
fract outwards from the collision when an
emcee shines into a prism. Be-

fore you assume
those who can’t sing “do” rap,
find a classroom, and try to
conjugate beaucoup tracks; if
you live up to Rak, EmBIG, 2
Pac
, Wu-TangK DotJayCube, Dre,
Cool J, Kweli, Snoop Dogg, you’ll say
“Lawd, it’s hard to be a rap god.”

And
if you just got schooled, make
use of your detention:
clear your pride and prejudice, and make
room for new retentions.
Open up your ears to hear these de-
lectable confections… and
don’t go thinking M.C. is short
hand for misconception.
