the last waltz

thanksgiving day
november 25, 1976
strap on your guitars
levon, grab those drum sticks
this is what you’ve been waiting for
time to step through that door

clapton is god
but even his strap breaks sometimes
further on up the road
but robbie was there just in time
cause the show must always go on
so his fingers leapt into song

every moment leads up to this
take the present and give it a kiss

is it not the timing
that calls miracles to sing out?
is it not a joy
to hear guitar strings twist and shout?
a true gentleman
will always take the back seat
but when the moment is ripe
he offers up the sweetest treat
