near (pt. 2)

god is near
al-Qarib
nearer than burning sand
under your feet
nearer than ice water
in july
nearer than a fly swatter
to a fly
nearer than manure
to your nose
nearer than a puppy
licking your toes
nearer than this
that you kiss with five senses
nearer than your castle walls
behind your defences
nearer than a hand
reaching down your pants
nearer than the skin
of two lovers in their dance
nearer than the light
of the sun in your eyes
nearer than the thought
in your head you despise
nearer than the heat
of a hearth in december
nearer than information
you just can’t quite remember
nearer than a frozen treat
shooting into your brain
nearer than your heartbeat
to your jugular vein
nearer than the air
in your nose, in your lungs
nearer than your finger
on the trigger of a gun
