the tallest mountain

the tallest mountain
has the coldest shoulder
it has the biggest shoes
it has the most to lose

molehills rest
down to earth
in their skin

the tallest mountain
looks down on the rest
it flaunts its size
the tallest speck

in eternity

molehills never worry
surrounded by equals
kin and loved ones –
barefoot, naked
nothing to hide

the tallest mountain
will come and go
just the same
no one will mourn its loss
no one
will remember its fame

molehills go, too
with no fear of the end
after lives gently maintained
molehills join the mountain

equals in dust, equals of grain

About the Author: I have a B.A. in Honours Religious Studies from the University of Waterloo and I love all major world religions – Eastern, Western, or in between. I’m genderqueer, and I’m comfortable with male, neutral, and female pronouns. I’m married to my dear wife Lynn, who is the love of my life, my best friend, and my muse. I think far too much, and often have too many ideas to know what to do with. And I am a doing being, just like you!
