I n f i n i t i v e.

If you seek to be right
you will forever be wrong
If you chase after silence
you’ll never escape the song
If your goal is success
you will always fail
If you desire to be fresh
you shall always be stale

If you seek to be strong
you will forever be weak
If you chase after belonging
you’ll never find what you seek
If your goal is intelligence
you will always be a fool
If you desire to wind up
you shall always be unspooled

If you seek to be first
you will forever be last
If you chase the rising sun
today will be gone too fast
If your goal lives in yesterday
today will never come
If you desire to be clean
you shall always embody scum

If you seek to control
you will forever be enslaved
If you chase a clean slate
your name will remain engraved
If your goal is all your own
you will never be one of ours
If you desire to build up
you’ll be buried beneath the flowers

If you seek to be enough
you will forever disappoint
If you chase after anything
you’ve already missed the point
If your goal carries you away
you will never know the truth
If you desire simply to be
all your wrinkles will be smooth

If you let life flow through you
like water through a sieve
you will be united
with the infinite infinitive

About the Author: I have a B.A. in Honours Religious Studies from the University of Waterloo and I love all major world religions – Eastern, Western, or in between. I’m genderqueer, and I’m comfortable with male, neutral, and female pronouns. I’m married to my dear wife Lynn, who is the love of my life, my best friend, and my muse. I think far too much, and often have too many ideas to know what to do with. And I am a doing being, just like you!
