I Didn’t Love Myself.

I didn’t love myself
That’s why something was always wrong
I have the best wife, the best life
But I sang an unsatisfied song
I have the best family, friends aplenty
But for change, I always longed
Until I learned to love myself
I couldn’t un-ring the gong

I could never scratch my itch
Because I did not love my inner “me”
I always wanted a different life
Until I finally came to see
I desired everything that was out of reach
Until I finally set “me” free
I dragged you down to my deepest depths
20,000 leagues beneath the sea

But when I accepted all my flaws,
My insecurities, and broken laws
The emptiness that nagged and gnawed
Was filled with truth and love
I saw that I was simply enough
Without accomplishing any goal
I, myself, was already whole
Free from wrist or ankle cuffs
