Constrictor.

I will never trust you again
For if I did, I’d be twice a fool
And the shame would be on me

I believed that your slither
Was the swagger of confidence
When you coiled around me
I believed you were friendly and warm
I believed your crushing grip
Was full of love and support

I only knew you were a snake
When you whispered a hiss into my ear
When I looked into your slitted pupils
And you smiled so sweetly, so wide

You’ve shown me who you are
And I’ll believe you this time
Now that I’ve had time to digest
