“Both Sides” Rant

For the love of God!
Or science! Or Beyonce!
Spirituality! Or politics!
Minecraft! Or Anime!
Call of Duty! Or YouTube!
Fitness! Business! Or art!
Whatever you bow down to,
can we at least agree on ONE thing?
That we have a single responsibility
TO DO NO HARM
to this planet, to its creatures,
to all kinds of doing beings
in the sky, sea, or upon the land,
regardless of who they love
or what they believe.
How hard could that be, really?
All we have to do is decide
that the pleasure of the rich
isn’t worth more than the lives
of those who live in poverty,
that our wants and desires aren’t more valuable
than the needs of the sick and hungry,
and that our trendy comforts and conveniences
aren’t as necessary
as the survival of our children’s children and their planet.
I mean, God damn!
How fucking hard is it to decide,
“Whatever I do in this life,
whatever course I take or vocation I choose,
I will never take the path
that leads to my success
at the expense, the pain, torture, and death
of any other doing being,
because that is the road that leads to Hell.”
But you can smell the sulfur
just as well as I can.
We’re all in Hell already,
and there is only one way out:
turn the fuck around
and DO NO HARM.
Can’t we get an agreement on that
from “both sides”
just this once,
pretty please?
