Doing Being Writing Prompt – 006

Mountain means “Keeping Still.” It is the bridge between two worlds, firmly rooted in Earth but standing tall and reaching into Heaven. It is wisdom, the mindful watchman protecting the land and the open door to all those seeking shelter in the kingdom of truth. It is ancient, patient. It watches individuals, generations, and whole societies take their first and final breaths. Place your feet on the ground, stand up tall, and close your eyes. Breathe in slowly and feel yourself expand high and wide, breathe out and feel the strength of the Mountain flowing through your body – now you are the bridge between Heaven and Earth. What do you do to transform Earth, this place we all call home, into Heaven? Or, what do you do that transforms our home into Hell?

For the poets in the room, you may take on additional challenges if you so wish:

  • Mountain Cadence – Use the rhyme scheme ABBA for your verse(s).
  • Mountain Rhythm – Use a syllable pattern of 557 for your verse(s).
  • Mountain Flow – Use a rhyme scheme of ABBA with a syllable pattern of 6556 for your verse(s).

Please feel free to share your results in the comments or link back from your own site – I look forward to reading your creations!

Keep reading to see three examples from me.

  • Mountain Cadence
no matter how deep I delve
    enough is never enough
    my greedy fingers clutch
and all they find is hell
    ·
  • Mountain Rhythm
    no one anywhere
    is as powerful,
    or peaceful, as the mountain
    ·
  • Mountain Flow
the hell you put me through
    cannot be undone
    but heaven will come
    if I can forgive you
